Google Editions due in June

  • Google's e-books entry unlikely to lower pricesGoogle will open an online bookstore, Editions, in July.Google will open an online bookstore, Editions, in July.

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Google Inc.'s entry into the electronic book market is not completely unexpected, as it has been scanning and sparring over digital rights over out-of-print books with publishers and authors for years.
But with Google now confirming it plans to join the e-book frenzy with Amazon.com Inc., Apple Inc. and others, via a new service this summer called Google Editions, one wonders what advantages will it really have versus its entrenched rivals. See Google news here.

Easy readers: Kindle, iPads more than novel ideas

E-books lure fans by the volumes

By Matt Frassica • mfrassica@courier-journal.com • April 19, 2010

Sarah Ruml has already given up on paper books. The Kindle is all she needs.“They're better than regular books,” Ruml, 38, said of e-readers like Amazon's Kindle. “They're lighter, and if you're trying to get under your covers to read, you can just use one hand. The page doesn't have that gutter (the space between the edge of the text and the page binding). You can read faster.”
Also: the bookstore is always open, and what you buy doesn't stack up in the house.

Australia and eBooks

  • Australia and eBooks

Kim Carr’s eBook working group is a joke By Renai LeMay There is an enormous amount of effort going on in the Australian technology community and the book publishing industry as both sides of the game work out how to transition to the new digital reality — as Delimiter’s recent feature article on the topic made clear.
Take Central Book Services, which has launched its ECO Reader device in Australia to stimulate demand, or the recent launch of the BeBook readers.
